The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. Out of our call to “do justice” (Micah 6:8), we strive to demonstrate the fullness of God’s shalom through living out our faith by caring for God’s creation. In keeping with this demonstration, a resolution concerning carbon neutrality was passed at the 2017 General Assembly, in which the Christian Church (DOC) committed to reducing our carbon pollution with the goal to become carbon neutral by the year 2030 and climate positive by 2035.
The Red Rock Christian Church Green Chalice team came together to protect our planet through recycling, energy saving, composting, awareness of how we live and how all of this can save the environment and signed the following covenant:
As children of God and followers of Christ Jesus, we covenant to:
Worship God with all creation and pray for the healing of the earth.
Study the climate crisis and engage others in climate solutions.
Repent and forgive for the harm we have inflicted on the earth that sustains life.
Advocate for ecojustice public policies and witness by living sustainable lifestyles.
Rest in God’s good creation and invite others to delight in nature.
